Almost 4 months
Man, only one day into this "no news" business and I'm finding it's a challenge! I'm so tempted to turn on FOX news, but I won't! I think I will get back to my book. I'm currently reading "Think Big" by Dr. Ben Carson. It is such an amazing story of how he came to be a world renown pediatric neurosurgeon. I highly recommend it. I love what his mother always said to him, "Benjamin, you can do anything that anyone else can do, only you can do it better!" I want to teach my kids that they can be anything they want to be. They have so much potential.

Media Detox
The stress can definitely get to me. Yep, even my adorable toddler notices when I'm halfway through "Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You" and I am too distracted by the recent news reports to put full effort into making the fun sounds made by the lovable Mr. Brown. He notices my increased anxiety when I'm not being as patient as I know I can be.
It's enough to make anyone heart sick... The news. Flights going down. Unemployment going up. The scary economy. The"stimulus" spending bill. A trillion. TRILLION. TRILLION DOLLARS!!!! The fact that government wants to have a death grip on doctors decisions, as if in the minds of the suits in Washington all doctors are viewed as village idiots that don't know anything anyway.......oh the madness of it all.
The world is just plain crazy right now. I enjoy being involved and being informed. It's a good thing to study the issues and keep up on current events. But, there's only so much I can take before I lose perspective and get sucked up in all the negativity. So this is my plan. Glenn, I love you dearly, but I am taking a break. That's right.
A media detox!
To purge my system of over anxiety about how the sky is falling, the sky is falling! That's right. No watching the news on the TV or reading it on the Internet for a week.
I have never attempted this before, but my husband has. Jared is the smartest person I know. He seriously seems to know everything about everything, and always knows what's going on in the news world. But not too long ago we were talking about how doom and gloom everything is in the media and how he needed a serious break. So, for an entire week he did a media detox. Instead of watching or reading the news he decided to spend that time wisely on the things that matter. His family and faith.
It's amazing the difference it made for him. He noticed a significant decrease in anxiety, enough to give him the right perspective again for when he did return to reading the news. Now he can look at it with the right perspective, stay calm and keep optimistic.
If we are prepared, we shouldn't fear, right? RIGHT!
So that's what I'm planning on doing this week.
Jax will be thrilled to see just how much gusto Mr. Brown really has.

Last night
was worse. Now I feel like a truck slammed right into me going 100 mph. And poor Jax who sleeps like a champ just couldn't ignore the phlegm invading his little lungs.
But....
The sun is shining this morning and that makes everything better. It will feel so nice to look outside and feel the sun on our faces while I wipe the snot away with wet wipes.

#
8. The # of times Tyce woke up crying last night because he was throwing up, blowing out, needing to eat, coughing (such a deep cough), or needing a hug because he was just plain miserable. Poor kiddo.
3. The # of times Jax was up last night because of Tyce's coughing fits, or the horrendous wind storm causing a ruckus.
2. The # of times Jared and I were startled awake thinking there was an intruder. It was just the wind throwing branches at our house.
1.5. Hours of sleep I got last night.
3. The # of times I let Jax watch Finding Nemo yesterday. Sigh. Usually not the norm, but when there's a sicko in the house we all need a little help.
30. The # of hours Jared will be working at Riverside instead of being at home.
7. # of weeks Jared has left in med school. Hooray.

a little bit of me
- I love being a mommy. Even though just today I was hit with projectile poop from my laughing 3 month old. uhg.
- I love finding good deals. It's a high for me. I rarely buy anything at full price.
- I am going to become an ACSM certified personal trainer. (more on that later)
- I secretly want to be Jillian on the Biggest Loser. She's mean but she rocks! I want to motivate people like she does.
- I have to work out at least 5 days a week or I get a little anxious.
- I flinch every single time I turn on the garbage disposal. I'd say 10 percent of the time there is a metal object inside and it freaks me out.
- My favorite candy bar is Twix. I usually only eat them during Halloween.
- I love Broadway musicals
- I love Target
- And Costco
- I loved studying History in school. I've forgotten most of what I learned. I'd love to re-learn it.
- I want to be on the Cash Cab
- Which would mean a trip to NYC.
- I've been to Punxsutawney
- I need some vitamin D. Where's the sun dang it!
- I'm a sucker for infomercials. I don't buy anything, but I often want to.
- Like the snuggie; come on you know you want one too :)
- I don't get offended easily
- I feel like my brain needs a jump start sometimes
- I'm grumpy in the morning
- And I have seriously bad breath in the morning. I know you are all thinking that everyone does, but mine is lethal.
- Well, that's it for now kids. Happy Groundhog Day.
