I had a scary experience last night.I was up at my parents church- my dad was recently released as bishop of his ward and the members threw him an appreciation get together with a picture slide show, a beautifully crafted quilt and of course- lots of goodies lining a huge table.
I went up myself because Jared was working in St. George.
I took the boys in and it was a smaller room with lots of chairs and I put them down with their ipad and snacks (from home of course, they're picky ya know) and I mingled with a few people I knew growing up in my neighborhood.
Tyce found the treat table right away and grabbed an oreo so I let him down it, he then wanted a cupcake so I thought "no biggie"
Well I spotted him one more time grabbing a cookie as I was chatting with an old friend. He brought it back to his chair and ate it. Literally 30 seconds later Jax was crying for some reason- I think he lost me in the crowd for a split second and was overwhelmed and dysregulating fast. I went over and noticed tyce was grabbing his throat and saying he was sick and his face was red and his eyes puffy.
I knew exactly what had happened. That cookie must have had walnuts in it and I didn't even realize it until then.
He was starting to cry and the allergic reaction was literally getting worse right before my eyes. I grabbed him and told my mom I needed her help and I was going to rush him to the ER because it looked like has having a hard time breathing with his hands to his throat like that.
Well, we got into Jared's truck (he had driven my Tucson down to St. G) and that's where Tyce projectile vomited- and I mean I've never seen so much puke in a small child before. It got all over my mom who was able to manage to contain some of it in one of my jackets we had in the truck.
After his quick yet violent puke he looked stable. His breathing was stable and he had a residual cough and puffy eyes and was jsut the saddest little thing on the planet but I felt he was going to be okay with some Benadryl and a good clean up.
So we drove straight to the pharmacy to pick up Benadryl and I gave him some and he seemed to be doing much better.
I took him to my mom's for a nice warm tub and fresh clothes and he looked absolultey exhausted- we all were.
He fell asleep on the drive home and I was comforted ho hear his slightly congested nose breathing in and out- I needed to hear his breathing or else I would have been worried about him falling asleep at that time.
Anyways I prayed so hard last night- thanking my Heavenly Father for this amazing little boy. I don't know what I'd do without him.
So, Tyce is allergic to walnuts, and we are going to assume he's also allergic to pecans and pistachio's as well. (peanuts are fine).
Phew......what a scare.
