My Grandpa Jim

James Mack Harris

My grandpa Jim passed away a couple weeks ago and I had the privilege of attending his funeral. He was such an amazing person and I loved him deeply.
Grandpa was a lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force and had a deep love for his country and fought for our freedom. I remember one of his visits to our home when I was a 9th grader and my interest in world history was at its peek. I asked my grandpa to teach me about the history of the middle East and help me understand the political climate around the world and he explained it to me in such detail and such passion that I sat transfixed on my kitchen counter just taking it all in as he taught me. I remember thinking that he was the smartest person who walked the earth.
I remember his sense of humor and always laughed at how quickly he'd seize an opportunity to jokingly make a jab at someone and make someone laugh. And oh the stories he'd tell. My grandma would sometimes roll her eyes and say "are you going to tell that one again? I've heard it at least a hundred times!" But we'd beg for him to tell it again. He lived a wonderful life and his children bore witness to his testimony at his funeral where they had the chance to talk about their father and his unyielding love for the Savior. He loved the Savior and taught his children to know and love Him too. He died of Alzheimer's disease. What an incredibly sad disease to witness. I remember shortly after I was married in 2001 he was starting to have trouble finding words to familiar stories he'd tell. Slowly he started losing a little more. It was a hard thing to witness him struggle to find words that so easily came before. He started to lose the ability to recognize his loved ones. My grandma is such an angel. She took such wonderful care of him. She left no detail unattended too and was literally an angel by his side up until the end. She is so amazing and I love her so much.

He received Military honors and it was the most incredible thing to witness- I was bursting with pride for my country and love for my grandpa and grandma.

thanks for letting me use this pic Heather I hope you don't mind
The tears spilled down when I heard these words:
" On behalf of the President of the United States and the United States Air Force we thank you for your husband's service". It was incredibly moving.

I know you're still standing up for what's right Grandpa! I can't wait until we meet again, and I know we will.

Halloween

Me and my sister-in-law Heather

Jax and my brother Lance "the banana"

Caden and Tyce

My creation. It was hard, and didn't look nearly as cute as the oreo bats from ourbestbites.

Tyce is eating peas in this picture. Yep, he grabbed them from Grandma's freezer and that's what he wanted for dinner.

You couldn't have asked for better weather to trick-or-treat. It was warm!

Happy little super hero's

cascade springs

I love Fall in Utah. I am really going to miss the beautiful changing leaves...more on that another post.

The nebo loop is a drive we take every year- and love it!

I'd never been to Cascade Springs before but we saw the sign and said "let's do it" and I'm glad we did. The boys had a blast.

Who knew the drinking fountain would be the hit of the entire experience? :)
